Every year, Reading Festival brings some of the biggest names in music to the UK, and it’s easy to focus only on them. But often overlooked are the artists playing the smaller stages, the ones you stumble into at 2pm when the sun’s too hot, you’re slightly hungover, and you end up walking away a massive fan.

This year’s undercard is stacked with future stars and artists we’re hoping to see on the main stage one day.  We’ve got our eyes on a few who are just around the corner from their breakout moments.

Cover star of Karma! Magazine, Nieve Ella, has already made waves with her recent tours supporting Girl in Red and Bradley Simpson. She’s one of those artists you have to see now. An “I was there before they blew up” kind of act. Alessi Rose is another rising name we’re watching closely. Her recent run opening for Dua Lipa proved her she is made for arenas and big stages and she’s bringing back sensual fashion and unapologetic pop with confidence.

If you’re into indie-pop with emotional depth, don’t miss Del Water Gap. He is one of those artists who’s set stay with you, long after the show ends. Girls Don’t Sync will bring euphoria to the fields with their DJ sets, whilst The Dare is set to deliver a energy filled set bound to leave you sweatier than you arrive – and a little bit obsessed.

The headliners are huge, no doubt. But the real magic might just be happening mid-afternoon, stage-left, surrounded by strangers who are about to fall in love with something new.
