Sheffield-born, Birmingham-based solo artist Daisy Peacock (and her four-piece band) is making waves with her bright and effervescent indie-pop offerings. Though her discography only stretches back a handful of tracks to her breakout debut ‘You Don’t Want Me Enough’ – released in 2023 – it’s overflowing with infectious cuts and biting instrumentation.

Her latest release via AWAL comes in the preppy, alt-rock wrapped package of ‘Girlbestfriend’.

Penned during her first year at University, Peacock’s fifth track explores the tumultuous talking phase of a blooming, yet-to-be relationship, and the unsteady, tricky predicament of his girl best friend (who also happens to be his ex you forgot to tell me you two used to date). Declaring she’s not suspicious or self-effacing unless the situation demands it (“I’m not insecure unless I should be”) – Peacock is championing self-preservation in this witty, sharp track.

Steeped in ‘90s Avril Lavigne guitars and harking overt similarities to American pop princess Olivia Rodrigo, ‘Girlbestfriend’ is an impressive offering from Daisy Peacock, and cements her as an exciting one to watch on the indie-pop scene.
