SPIRITBOX – L’OLYMPIA 18/02/2025 SHOW REVIEW

Review by Sara Jisr

Selling out L’Olympia is a dreamy and prestigious achievement many work towards for years.

All the way from Canada, Spiritbox have done just that— for their first ever French headliner.

Joined by their friends in Stray From The Path and Periphery, the two-time Grammy nominated band has just wrapped up touring the UK and mainland Europe, playing to sold out crowds each night.

After releasing their debut album ‘Eternal Blue’ in 2021, the band has passed through France a handful of times in support of household names such as Bring Me The Horizon, Ghost, and more recently Architects. Playing short sets for arena sized crowds throughout the years has established their reputation and has only left French fans craving more and more, leading 2,000 children, teenagers and adults itching for the long wait for be over.

Leaning into the cyber-goth aesthetic of their new ‘Tsunami Sea’ chapter, the stage was filled with jumbotrons glowing with visuals representative of the era of each song. The short breaks between each song let the crowd be immersed in the song’s energy.

Whether it be because of logistical misfortune or intentional thought-out planning, touring a different continent right before the release of a new album is usually not the most orthodox way of starting a new chapter. This time around it did however make perfect sense, to finally perform their debut album for European fans all whilst giving them a taste of the next one, before coming back in the summer for major festivals.

As stated by LaPlante, they had a short curfew for the night, she opted for small-talk and quick acknowledgements so they would be able to play as many songs as possible.

Courtney LaPlante redefines what it means to be a powerhouse. Her clean and masterful vocals leave you no choice but to freeze and admire her, with a voice ranging from what could be a siren singing to an empty cathedral, before ultimately morphing into a banshee.

Even with hugely popular songs such as ‘Circle With Me’ and Grammy nominated ‘Jaded’, nothing could quite compare to the rowdiness and energy felt during ‘Holly Roller’ in the encore. It felt as though the entire show was building up and leading to that moment as the grand finale, wrapping up softly with ‘Constance’ as the end credits.

Spiritbox’s new album ‘Tsunami Sea’ is out as of 7th March and available now..
