Silverstone kicked off its British Grand Prix weekend with an unforgettable night of live music from headliner Sam Fender, with support from Blossoms. I had the honour of attending on Thursday for the opening night, and the energy on site was unreal. You could feel the buzz of the weekend starting to build already with fans camping and anticipating who would win this weekends race.
Blossoms opened with a setlist filled with fan favourites including Charlemagne, Your Girlfriend, and Gary, and did not fail to set the tone with their signature indie-rock sound. And then came Sam Fender, who absolutely tore up the stage. Having seen Sam in the past, it’s clear his stage presence and vocals are the best they’ve ever been. Flags from Newcastle United waved across the crowd as fans sang along to Seventeen Going Under, Hypersonic Missiles, and People Watching.
There was something surreal about watching him play in front of the grandstands, with fireworks closing the night as Turnstile played and everyone fully geared up for the race ahead.
And the weekend didn’t slow down from there. Raye and Jade followed on Friday, with Fatboy Slim, Mabel, Becky Hill, and Idris Elba all hitting the stage across the weekend. Additionally, there was the T1 Afterparty, where acts like Eats Everything, DJ Luck & MC Neat, Sub Focus, and Mike Skinner kept the party going long after the day’s racing ended.
This year’s line-up really shows how Silverstone is not just about the racing but about music, entertainment and bringing people together. Seeing George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and others taking photos with fans and running round the track ahead of race day, brought the weekend together.
Silverstone continues to raise the bar year after year, and this was the perfect way to kick off F1’s 75th anniversary weekend. We cannot see what is in store for Silverstone 20:6.
