Australian singer song-writer Annie Hamilton’s latest release, ‘the prologue (seven storeys up)’, pieces together fleeting moments and feelings of euphoria. The track is a sister song and the prologue to ‘seven storeys up’, an ethereal track from her sophomore album ‘stop and smell the lightning’.

Hamilton’s songwriting on this single reveals a profound depth of feeling which she translates into poetic and honest lyrics. The song meshes together pulsing production, angelic vocals and hyper-pop to create a layered and complex track, reflecting the emotions tied up in it.

Listening to the track is like wandering through wonderland and being confronted with fairies, demons and all sorts of magical creatures, proving that Hamilton’s ability to build a vivid and supernatural world with her music is unparalleled.

The song swirls with anticipation, zigzagging between lighter and darker moments, which can be heard in contrasting moments of shimmery and grungy production. The song is unpredictable but exciting, keeping the listener on their toes at every turn.

Speaking about the track, Hamilton says “After releasing [the track], I listened back to my original demo and realised how much the song had evolved and transformed over the time I recorded the album – it was basically an entirely different song, new lyrics and all. I decided to share the original version of the song to tell the rest of the story.”

With the release of ‘the prologue (seven storeys up)’, Annie Hamilton is ready for listeners to explore her weird and wonderful world. The song is now available to listen to on all streaming platforms, along with a video to accompany the song on YouTube, and a BTS look at the story behind the track on her substack.
