Hokum
1 May, Where to watch: UK Cinemas
Starring Adam Scott, Hokum is a supernatural horror set in an isolated countryside inn where absolutely nothing is what it seems. Early reactions have been calling it one of the creepiest horror releases of the year.

The Sheep Detectives
8 May, Where to watch: UK Cinemas
This one might be a bit of a wildcard. The Sheep Detectives follows a flock of sheep who decide to solve their shepherd’s murder themselves – yes, seriously – and with Hugh Jackman involved, it’s sure to be funny, weird and surprisingly wholesome. The definition of chaotic cinema.

Off Campus
13 May, Where to watch: Prime Video
An adaptation from Elle Kennedy’s hit romance series, Off Campus is about to become your newest binge. Expect complicated crushes, friendship fallouts and all the emotional messiness that comes with falling for the wrong person at exactly the wrong time. As someone who read these books as a teen, I could not be more excited.

Obsession
15 May, Where to watch: UK Cinemas
Dark, disturbing and emotionally intense, Obsession is one of May’s biggest psychological horrors. It follows a relationship that quickly turns sinister. This is the perfect watch if you love films that leave you feeling deeply unsettled.

Rivals Season 2
15 May, Where to watch: Disney+
The scandal is back. Rivals returns this month with even more affairs, betrayals and outrageously rich people behaving terribly. If season one was dramatic, season two looks ready to raise absolute hell.

Passenger
22 May, Where to watch: UK Cinemas
Horror fans are being fed this month, and Passenger looks terrifying – the trailer alone is enough to make you never want to go on a roadtrip again. After witnessing a fatal accident on an isolated road, a couple realise something sinister has followed them home.

Finding Emily
22 May, Where to watch: UK Cinemas
A softer watch among all the horror, Finding Emily is a fresh romantic drama with a mystery at its centre. Following a search for one elusive girl that turns into something much deeper, the film is expected to be emotional and heartfelt –perfect if you need a break from being traumatised.

Backrooms
29 May, Where to watch: UK Cinemas
This is probably one of the most anticipated horrors of the year. Based on the viral internet phenomenon, Backrooms throws viewers into endless empty hallways, strange noises and the constant feeling that something is lurking in the shadows. We already know this is going to be nightmare fuel.

Half Man
Where to watch: BBC iPlayer
Okay, technically Half Man did not actually start in May — but this is a special mention because it has easily been one of the best things on television so far, and with the final episodes landing this month, it fully deserves a place here. Brutal, emotional and beautifully acted, this one has masterpiece status written all over it. Richard Gadd has created yet another masterpiece.
