The four-piece from Manchester did not hold back at their Glasgow gig, exclaiming their excitement to play in the city for such a passionate and enthusiastic crowd. The two support acts, Alesia and The Sketch, started the night off strong and were a hit with the audience. With a similar sound to The Covasettes, they received an energetic reaction from the crowd and helped build momentum for the headlining act.
From start to finish, the band were electrifying. The audience cheered and roared as they sang along to their favourites, with every song sounding better than the recording.
It was a jam-packed gig with a well thought out setlist, the band making sure to play a bit of everything, from breakup anthems to more merry tracks.
A personal favourite was ‘Be Mine’. On record, it’s an incredible track, but hearing it live was next level and had the whole room screaming along.
“Twit Twoo” was another song which the crowd – and myself – loved. Admittedly, this was never before a top choice of mine, however after Saturday night, it’s now been added to my playlist and become one of my favourites.
Alongside the tunes, the musicians did well at engaging the crowd, with witty stories and interactive clap-alongs to keep fans involved – they truly filled the stage with their presence.
Something original and unique to The Covasettes tour was their decision to include in their setlist a cover of a song local to whichever city they were playing in. For Glasgow, the crowd erupted in cheers as they performed “Last Request”, a song by the Scottish artist Paulo Nutini.
They also played a new tune for the crowd, “Rebound”, which landed well with the audience and received a thunderous applause.
The set felt very personal, like a performance just for you. The way the band communicated with their audience was truly special, a quality that modern performers often struggle to perfect.
This is a band you could see time and time again and they would never lose their spark. The show was an unforgettable one and I can’t wait to see what’s next for them.
