Review by Lana Williams
Pop darling Caity Baser emerged on the music scene with the no-nonsense attitude of her break-out track ‘Pretty Boys’ that saw fans rally together in praise of Basers’ witty lyrics and infectious soundscapes. Her sophomore record, ‘Still Learning’ (2024), culminated in a BRIT nomination (Rising Star), and carved out her corner in the vibrant pop hyperspace.

Her latest venture, ‘Watch That Girl (She’s Gonna Say It)’ marks a new era for Baser, and sits as a stark contrast to the bubblier intonations of ‘X&Y’ and ‘Why Can’t I Have Two (2468)’, and instead is drenched in softer, more stripped-back sound. Co-written and performed with the aid of effervescent pop do Oh Wonder, lush vocals reign supreme atop dreamy, jangly instrumentation and infectious percussion.

Ditching her sassier tones for more raw reflections, ‘Watch That Girl (She’s Gonna Say It)’ demonstrates a clear maturation in her songwriting, with lyrics that detail growth (“Taken me a while to try and heal it but I’ll work it out”), and empowerment, as opposed to the boy-obsessed notes of ‘Still Learning’ (“You look so pretty / So shut up and kiss me”).
Talking on the track, Baser notes “I’m back! Surprise! And I am SO happy to introduce you to my brand new song Watch That Girl (She’s Gonna Say It). The start of my new musical journey and I’m so excited to share it with you all!”
With this fresh release, Caity Baser is heading in a new direction, bolder, brighter and all the more-confident.
