Following an extremely successful come-back in 2022 to celebrate their 25th anniversary, and another spectacular weekend of indie-rock sensations and British shenanigans, Truck Festival will once again be returning to Oxfordshire.
Lovingly named “the UK’s most warped village fete”, this four day festival is a celebration of music, and offers new and established musicians the chance to shine.
The line-up is stacked with incredible musicians, and can appear quite overwhelming at a first glance, so I’ve compiled a short list of the female fronted bands and musicians that I think should absolutely not be missed.

The Mysterines (Truck Stage – Thursday)
After blazing their way onto the music scene with their debut album in March 2022, The Mysterines have remained on an upwards trajectory since. This female-fronted alternative rock band continues to grow in popularity, with European and North American headline tours lined up for later this year, they are sure to put on a spectacular show.
Girl Like That (V&V – Friday)
Putting her twist on indie-rock, Girl Like That exposes the hidden corners of the young female experience. Her brutal lyricism and gritty tone shine through in tracks such as “Little Games” and “Bad Boys In Bands”, offering a fiery, feminine perspective that can be hard to find in the genre.
Holly Humberstone (Truck Stage – Friday)
No matter how many times I see Holly Humberstone live, she never fails to blow me away. The gentle yet electric atmosphere she generates is unlike any other musician I’ve seen live and is truly not something to be missed. Every song transports the crowd and takes them on a journey through different aspects of Holly’s life, accompanied by her haunting melodies and honest lyrics.
SOFY (Truck Stage – Saturday)
Inspired by brit-pop and iconic musicians such as Lily Allen, SOFY effortlessly encapsulates the easy-going indie British girl energy in her music. Writing solely from her own day-to-day experiences, she explores themes such as toxic masculinity and relationships, creating highly relatable (and danceable) tracks.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Truck Stage – Saturday)
After the release of BAFTA nominated movie Saltburn in 2023, Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2001 pop classic “Murder On The Dancefloor” launched its way back up the charts and out of speakers everywhere. This well-deserved comeback has secured her a spot on some of the UK’s most iconic festival stages this summer (including the Truck Stage), where she is guaranteed to get everyone dancing along with her 80s synth-pop-inspired hits.
Mary in the Junkyard (The Nest – Sunday)
Mary in the Junkyard is an experimental rock trio whose haunting musicality is guaranteed to stick with an audience. Before releasing any recorded music, the group had already made a name for themselves in the London music scene, playing over 50 live shows in the capital alone. Now, following the release of their EP in May this year, they will only continue to draw in bigger crowds.
Nieve Ella (Market Stage – Sunday)
If you’re looking for music to make you dance and cry simultaneously then look no further than future indie superstar Nieve Ella. Combining her token guitar riffs and brutally honest lyrics, Nieve and her band never fail to bring energy to the stage, even during her saddest songs, and are sure to have the whole crowd jumping and singing along.
Truck 2024 is sure to be an unforgettable weekend. I look forward to seeing you there if you’ve got your ticket – and if you haven’t yet, hurry, they’ve almost sold out!
