Adorned in tartan, LAUREL was dressed the part for her return to Scotland when playing her show at G2 in Glasgow on October 20.

The concert began with an atmospheric intro with birds chirping, which seamlessly transitioned into first the first track on the setlist: ‘Deathwish’. With low lighting and angelic vocals, this performance had a celestial feeling to it, making the audience feel like they had entered heaven. Next up was ‘Best I Ever Had’, in which LAUREL played the guitar and was received very well by the crowd. This was an energetic and upbeat performance which had the crowd singing along loudly.

Afterwards, she played ‘Breakfast’, with ethereal vocals and a pulsating synth-pop sound. The whole venue was engulfed by the music, mirroring the subject matter of the song: being consumed by love. As the music pulsed loudly throughout the venue, and the colourful lighting lit up the stage, LAUREL commanded the stage with confidence, and oozed feminine energy. This was my favourite performance of the show, as I felt it really captured LAUREL’s talents.

‘Same Mistakes’ was a wrathful performance of an angry track. This song got a loud response from the crowd, as LAUREL belted out the lyrics. She also played ‘Change’, a track which is in a similar vein to ‘Same Mistakes’, as both explore the idea of repeating old habits. LAUREL remarked how the timing of her kicking over her glass of champagne before playing the song was timed aptly considering the lyrics of the track.

For ‘Only One’, LAUREL got into the crowd to sing as everyone surrounded her with the flashlights on their phones lighting her up. This was a captivating performance which blurred the lines between performer and audience, as she sang the song with the crowd forming a circle around her. This performance was a testament to LAUREL’s artistry, in which she attempts to create an immersive, all encompassing experience which reflects her music.

The smooth pop sound of ‘Kissing With The Top Down’ translated effortlessly to the stage, making for a captivating performance of the single. For her performance of ‘45 Degrees’, LAUREL opted to play the grunge version of the song. This gave it more edge, owing to the gritty guitar and explosive chorus.

Before the encore, she thanked the “totally gorgeous” crowd and departed from the stage. She came back to play ‘Sun King’ and ‘Scream Drive Faster’. The former was pared down to just vocals and electric guitar, showcasing LAUREL’s talents. The latter was an atmospheric performance and a fitting way to end the concert.

The show was truly captivating and perfectly represented the emotiveness and dream-like mood of LAUREL’s latest album PALPITATIONS.
