Having recently performed at the All Saints event for London Fashion Week, rapidly rising indie alt-rock band, The Mezz are back with a new single that fans are guaranteed to love. Originally from Oxford, the trio consists of Ben (vocals/guitar), Mikey (bass) and Charlie (drums), and they have been wowing audiences consistently with their high energy performances. “Last One Running” is an upbeat yet gritty take on living in a politically unstable UK, flooded with satirical patriotism and hazy guitars.
Unlike some of their more recent work, this track has more in common with their first EP ‘Avoid the Panic’ which was released in 2022, with grittier vocals and heavier instrumentals, making it ideal for fans of Biffy Clyro, Green Day and the British Punk genre. The heavy shout-along lyrics will blend seamlessly into their already chaotic live performances and crushing stage presence, adding to the electric atmosphere that these lads are well known for generating.
This musical commentary on what it feels like to be living in the United Kingdom’s current political climate features powerful vocals reminiscent of Biffy Clyro and a guitar solo that rivals the likes of Rascal Flatts. Frustration seeps through every note and lyric of this song from the sarcastic tone of “get a job, get a job” to the blatant honesty of “welcome to the twenties where we’re fucked” making it the perfect track to blast while you drive down the motorway or headbang alone in your room.
“Last One Running” is a perfect example of The Mezz’s potential to become super-stars. One day when the boys are selling out arenas, they will be able to look back on this track as their turning point towards the new Mezz, and the moment when they solidified themselves as future indie rock stars.selves as future indie rock stars.
