Walt Disco put on a triumphant homecoming show at Glasgow’s SWG3 Warehouse on the 30th of November. Band members Jocelyn Si (vocals), Lewis Carmichael (guitar), Charlie Lock (bass), Jack Martin (drums) and Finlay McCarthy (synth), went all out for the final night of their tour. Starting with an atmospheric intro of ‘Seed’, then slipping seamlessly into ‘Gnomes’, the gig was off to a flying start.

For ‘How Cool Are You?’, the crowd was chanting “la la la la” with the band and clapping along to the upbeat track, which is reminiscent of 80s David Bowie. Afterwards, they slowed things down for ‘Pearl’, a soft track which allowed Si’s vocals to really shine through.

As Walt Disco played into the night, the performance of each song offered something unique. ‘You Make Me Feel So Dumb’ included the addition of a saxophone, played by Dean Garrity. This created a jazzy vibe which the crowd responded to with ecstatic joy. ‘Come Undone’ showcased each member of the band as excellent musicians and performers. ‘Before The Walls’ made the venue tremor as low red lighting and moody vocals exuded throughout the venue. For ‘Jocelyn’, purple and white lighting engulfed the venue as Si first crooned softly, then belted out the lyrics of the bridge, earning a loud response from the audience. This was a particularly touching performance of a beautifully vulnerable song which champions trans visibility.

Walt Disco brought us back to their debut album with performances of ‘Macilent’ and ‘Weightless’. The performance of the former consisted of screaming guitar and vocals, and Si singing directly to fans in the front row after jumping down to the barrier. At one point, they got on top of the drum as the other band members jumped around the stage, exemplifying the band’s magnetic showmanship.

The final song of the gig was their debut single from 2018, ‘Drowning In Your Velvet Bed’. The performance featured Dean Garrity and his saxophone again, much to crowds delight. A lull towards the end of the song allowed for the sax and electric guitar to take centre stage, before an explosion of all of the instruments shook the venue one last time.

During the show, Jocelyn Si proclaimed that the SWG3 Warehouse crowd was the best of the tour, and said, “Glasgow you’ve been such a wonderful audience, this has definitely been our favourite show ever”. It is unsurprising that they felt this way, given the enthusiasm and vigour with which the crowd responded to each song. Each member’s mastery of their instrument blended perfectly with Si’s standout vocal performances, making for an unforgettable show.
