Brighton-based artist REA has always found solace in the natural world. Her songwriting – born from quiet moments in her dad’s garden shed – captures the hush of outdoor spaces, layering sounds of birdsong, flowing water, and falling rain into her music. Now, with her debut EP ‘Garden Shed‘ set for release on the 17th of April, 2025, she invites listeners into a world of raw, organic nostalgia.
Produced by fellow Brighton resident Josh Harrison (The Cure, Royal Blood, Lovejoy) and recorded deep in the South Downs, ‘Garden Shed‘ is an intimate, atmospheric body of work that sits somewhere between Bon Iver’s fragile storytelling and the hushed, haunting delivery of Adrianne Lenker and Marika Hackman’s early work. Lead single Talk, out now, sets the tone perfectly – moody and delicate, with double-tracked vocals that intertwine and envelop the listener. Its rich harmonies and stripped-back arrangement pull you into REA’s introspective world, where every note feels like a quiet revelation.
Having already gained recognition from BBC Introducing, Slack City, and Rapture Magazine, REA is quickly carving out a space for herself. With a collaboration with the London Philharmonic Orchestra on the horizon and a steadily growing TikTok following, ‘Garden Shed‘ is set to solidify REA as an artist whose music lingers long after the last note fades.
To celebrate the release, REA will be bringing her ethereal sound to a string of live shows across Brighton, including a headline performance at Brighton Art Space Pop-Up on the 9th of March and an EP launch show at St Augustine’s Centre on the 26th of April. She will also support lilo at The Folklore Rooms on the 2nd of April and perform as part of The Great Escape x Bella Union Vinyl Shop showcase on the 15th of May.
‘Talk’ is out now on all streaming platforms, listen here.
