Australian indie-pop star Gordi recently released the final single from her upcoming album and it’s a catchy, adrenaline-inducing track called ‘Head Rush’. If this song is anything to go by, the album is sure to be a hit.

‘Head Rush’ merges pulsing electronic production with moody guitar, giving the song a darkness that contrasts with Gordi’s heavenly vocals. This juxtaposition allows the song to convey feelings of both nostalgia and urgency at the same time, accurately capturing the rushed and unpredictable transition into adulthood, and how ultimately, nothing lasts forever.

A young woman stands outdoors wearing a bright green t-shirt and loose blue jeans, with a natural backdrop of greenery and flowers. She has shoulder-length hair and appears contemplative.

Written spontaneously in Los Angeles and inspired by exciting times spent in New York, the song’s lyrics recount fond memories spent in a city that Gordi has frequented over the last few years. The chorus and last words of the track are “It’s alright”, repeated over and over, giving the song an air of hopefulness, that life will one day become just as intoxicating as it once felt.

The video for the track, made with Madeleine Purdy, feels like an insight into Gordi’s life in New York. Filmed as a visual diary, it shows both the rapid pace of life in the city and the depth of emotion in the song.

‘Head Rush’ is out now on all streaming services and Gordi’s upcoming album ‘Like Plasticine’ is set for release on the 8th of August via Mushroom Music.
