A line lapped around Toronto’s HISTORY waiting for viral singer songwriter d4vd on his Withered World Tour.
On his second Canadian stop, he was joined by New York-based band, Laundry Day, who are similarly popular across social media.
The band opened with ‘R U READY?’ And the crowd was definitely not ready for the talent that these four musicians brought to the stage. They truly make their efforts look easy. The singer, Jude, hyped up the crowd, supported by Sawyer who impressed with his vocals behind the drum kit; adorned lovingly with a Labubu. You cannot forget the Henry’s, Pearl and Weingartner, shredding on their bass and electric guitars respectively.

Things slowed down and the lights got low during ‘Lavender’ as the venue was appropriately bathed in a purple light. Laundry Day closed out with a bang with ‘Why is Everyone a DJ?’, marking the end of their run on the Withered World Tour.

With a pre-show playlist curated to perfection, the crowd was eagerly awaiting the man they came to see. d4vd started the show with a fan-favourite ‘What Are You Waiting For’, dashing to all corners of the stage and greeting the sea of Canadian fans. He also managed to nail the backflip during ‘Take Me To The Sun’. Things began to slow down and sink into a warm, almost intimate vibe. In back-to-back performances, the crowd very loudly sang along to viral hits ‘Here With Me’ and ‘This Is How It Feels’. d4vd told the crowd that there would be a prize in store for whoever sang the loudest, and a prize there was.

The lights then came up and Laufey’s “From The Start” began to play and the crowd’s energy skyrocketed. As promised, d4vd had prizes, in the form of Labubus. If you don’t know what Labubus are by now, they are collectable plush toys that are taking the world by storm, and are worth a pretty penny. d4vd proceeded to unbox three of these toys and launch them into the crowd before starting ‘Crashing’, a ballad recorded with Kali Uchis.

Things picked up a bit with another funky viral hit, ‘Feel It’, which is featured in one of the singer’s favourite shows, ‘Invincible’. Much of d4vd’s discography revolves around songs of love and of heartbreak and longing, including ‘Leave Her’ and, one of my favourites, ‘Afterlife’.
D4vd is continuing on his world tour through North America this September before embarking on his European leg. Tickets are still available here.
