Having recently supported Siobhán Winifred at her headline show in Birmingham, singer-songwriter Dear Lily is beginning to find her fanbase. By wearing her heart on her sleeve, paired with ethereal vocals, she’s not only an artist for Phoebe Bridgers and Billie Eilish fans alike, but is also quickly proving to be just as captivating as each of these modern staples.
On her second and most recent single ‘Eternal’, Dear Lily’s emotionally wrought verses quickly build into the song’s powerhouse chorus, capturing the fear, helplessness and strength of feeling that comes with loving someone so deeply and so completely. Combining moving piano chords, a driving beat and heartfelt storytelling, the singer-songwriter skilfully creates a despondent atmosphere of yearning that tugs at your heartstrings whether you like it or not.
Her lyrics are so honest, genuine and entirely telling of her sincere artistry that they both stick in your head and make it impossible not to relate to Dear Lily’s latest musical project: “If eternity is real / I’m always going to feel / Cause there’s nothing I would risk / as long as we exist.”
It’s an incredibly beautiful and affecting track, filled with powerfully delicate vocals, poignant melodies and a truly stirring chorus, and so seems perfectly broken-hearted and moody for this chilly time of year. Dear Lily may only just have released single number two, but it genuinely seems as though the future of indie music is in safe hands.
