Rising Swedish artist and producer Sam Ezeh has released transcendent EP ‘LOVELACED’, which is an exploration of love in all its forms. As Ezeh’s first collaborative project, ‘LOVELACED’ allowed him to expand his horizons and to experiment sonically.
The EP gets off to a promising start with ‘BABY BABY (WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR BREAKFAST?)’. The track keeps up a steady pace, inviting the listener into Ezeh’s euphoric world. Hinting at new wave influences, it’s a mellow song, with a good balance of instrumentalism and dreamy production.
‘AUDIOCORE’, has a more moody feel to it, owing to the prominent drums and bassline in the intro. With ethereal sounding vocals and synth effects coming into the track later, the song blends a slightly darker sound with Ezeh’s usual cheerful tone.
‘EARLY BIRD’S NEST’ has surf-rock undertones, with notable guitar riffs and delicate sonic aesthetics. The song slips between a silky, warm sound and upbeat, layered moments. ‘EARLY BIRD’S NEST’ is reminiscent of Ezeh’s previous work, with melodic vocal arrangements and an airy sound. The track blends seamlessly into the next, making the listener feel like they are floating through the musical bubble which Ezeh has crafted.

‘LEISURE’, co-written and performed with BbyMutha, is a playful and danceable track, perfect for the start (or end) of a club night. It has an 80s sound, due to the synths, bass, guitar and beat which come together to create a track that is a caramel-y delight. BbyMutha’s feature adds a certain edge to the song. However, rather than sounding out of place, it enhances the track, adding to the RnB undertones which can be heard throughout.
The penultimate song on the EP, titled ‘(FKA) ACT NICE’ feels like an expansive and experimental interlude in the EP, where Ezeh has created a slowed down dance track which fuses an alt-pop sound with dreamlike production.
Title track ‘LOVELACED’ brings the EP to an end with dreamy vocals and shimmery synths. The repetition of “in the discotheque” and the breathy vocals evoke the same psychedelic feel of the other tracks on the EP. This song feels like a euphoric slow motion journey through Ezeh’s world. The hallucinatory production makes this track otherworldly, and the guitar hints once again at inspiration from new wave icons. It perfectly encapsulates the EP’s overall vibe.
Ezeh has created a mind-bending, spiritual world in which he delves into the intricacies of love, whether that be platonic, romantic, or self-love. The EP’s unique, self-made sound showcases Ezeh’s boundary-pushing and genre-shifting capabilities.
Released on November 27th, the ‘LOVELACED’ EP is available to listen to on streaming services now.
