There are people laughing in the garden
Just below my window,
It is a balmy summers evening
And I can’t sleep
And I wonder what they’re laughing about,
If it is really that funny
There’s a barbecue going
The smell catches on a breeze and seeps in through the cracks,
I ache for a time that is long gone
I wonder what they’re cooking
I wonder if they’ll giggle about this later, on their way home
I wonder if they’re sad at all
If they know each other well,
I wonder if they have all that they hoped for
And I hope that they do
I wonder if they wonder
About the people behind the windows up above,
I wonder what they think about as they go to sleep
