On Monday night, Nell Mescal spoiled fans with a jam-packed acoustic set as she played the first gig of her current tour. Alongside a perfectly curated setlist of fan favourites, the Irish singer also teased some new releases, performing upcoming singles throughout her set.

Mescal opened with ‘Teeth’ as the energetic crowd screamed along with the lyrics. From the very beginning, it was clear that the show would be full of excitement, joy and even a few tears as the crowd became increasingly more electrified.

In between songs, Mescal ensured she included banter with fans, cracking jokes, shouting out superfans and claiming Edinburgh as one of her favourite places. She introduced Charlie Sinclair who joined her on stage for majority of her set, who also received an overwhelming round of applause and cheers.

Later in the set, Mescal performed ‘Thin’, a powerful song which touches on body image, heartbreak and female experiences. The crowd were in awe of her heartfelt lyrics and moving voice as some cried along with the deeply emotional track as the intimate atmosphere strengthened the connection between the singer and the crowd.

She brought the energy back up soon enough, switching to more upbeat singles as fans jumped and sang along. Even the artist herself was shocked at the volume of the crowd as they screamed out the words to ‘Homesick’.

As the show came to an end, Mescal once again thanked the crowd for their support before closing the show with ‘Killing Time’, a clear fan favourite as the room erupted with screams.

Monday’s performance was the perfect start to the tour as adoring fans shrieked and applauded for the singer as she left the stage. There is no doubt that the rest of the tour will surely match the energy that Mescal brought to Edinburgh and that this smaller artist will soon become an indie pop superstar.
