Following on from three recent successful singles, Northern artist Lois is releasing her sophomore EP, which goes by the name of ‘SEVEN’. The project is an accumulation of two years of songwriting and recording and the result is a wonderful fusion of pop, rock and candid songwriting.

‘MINE’ gets the EP off to a very promising start with a pulsing intro and theatrical vocals. As the song progresses, it becomes upbeat and empowering, with explosive choruses and strong vocals showcasing Lois at her best. A loud, rocky, and infectious song, there’s a sense of confidence as Lois sings about reclaiming her identity. Next, the title track ‘SEVEN’ is an emotive and pop-drenched track about becoming an adult, and an insightful, catchy track that makes a very enjoyable listen.

‘PHOENIX’ embodies her journey of discovering her own identity and womanhood, and perhaps adapting to the being an independent artist as well; much like a phoenix, Lois has risen from the ashes and come back stronger than before. The song has a moodier feel than the others on the EP. It’s a slow and contemplative track in which Lois explores the difficulties women face in society and the industry. The bridge is spoken, rather than sung, giving the song extra depth and emotion. This track perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being a woman: trying your best and not feeling like it’s enough yet still knowing that you have the power to conquer anything that you put your mind to.

Honest and compelling, ‘LOVE YOU BETTER’ is an 80s inspired, pop-perfect track with melodic vocals and introspective lyrics about overcoming trauma. This song showcases Lois’ ability to reach into the depths of her psyche and deliver relatable and enthralling music.

The EP finishes with the heavenly song, ‘APRIL SHOWERS’. The track starts with softly strummed acoustic guitar and soft vocals, and transitions into a relaxed and tuneful chorus, building up to a captivating crescendo. Observant and raw, the lyrics explore the what-ifs that haunt many of us in the middle of the night. Ethereal dreamscapes, melodic harmonies and delicate guitar make this a standout track on the EP, and a personal favourite for sure.

The EP is a bold reclamation of Lois’ creative vision, and with it, she paves the way for other independent artists. Merging pop and alt-rock influences, Lois has crafted an assured and exciting piece of work. The EP is set for release on the 15th of August – pre-save it now to be the first to listen when it drops.
