If you are a fan of car rides at 2 a.m. or having a boogie in your bedroom, Arthur Hill’s new EP will be right up your alley. From the upbeat party anthem ‘Right Now’ to the yearnful, sorrow etched lyrics of ‘Miracle’, the upcoming artist’s new EP perfectly matches the vibe of his upcoming ‘heartbreak-rodeo’ themed tour, Stella Artour.
As a YouTuber, singer and songwriter, Arthur is a central piece of gen-Z pop culture, and ‘Missed Again’ certainly has echoes of Harry Styles and Benson Boone-esque talent within it, promising a bright future in the world of pop for the young Mr Hill.
The EP balances on a fine line between celebration and heartbreak, with rock-infused pop track ‘She’s So Handsome’ echoing admiring and upbeat tones, furiously clashing with the much more somber lyrics of ‘Appetite’. However, the EP as a whole keeps up a consistent theme of sorrowful lyrics atop upbeat tracks, stapling Arthur’s artistic vibe as one that can only be explained as a heartbroken man at a disco.
‘Right Now’ certainly has potential to be Arthur’s very first chart-topping single, with the song already gaining traction through a TikTok trend of fans showing their favourite concert videos along to the chorus of this song. The lyrics “Well now those things that have already happened / Well they already happened / So forget it” push a message of moving on and not dwelling on the past, an encouraging and uplifting message that is well-suited to the upbeat nature of the song.
‘Miracle’ is filled with fragile and vulnerable lyrics, such as “Mama, I made it / But I can’t get the girl” and “She’s the best I never had”. This single illustrates a deeper, more complex side to Arthur Hill that is already being cherished by beloved fans who excitedly ‘claim’ the song as their own.
‘Back Here Again’ closes the indie-pop EP with a track perfect for divas in complex relationships. The gut-punching lyrical timing of “Thought you were closed off” and the repetition of “Oh we’re back here again” highlights a messy, forbidden situationship, making the song relatable to those who find themselves in complicated situations. This single is a pop-fueled, fun, yet vulnerable track that closes the EP with a bang.
