Originally formed by three school friends who were later joined by the band’s bassist, Fletchr Fletchr have burst onto the scene with a daring sound that is sure to cement them as a staple of British band culture. They are already playing iconic UK venues and amassing a dedicated fanbase that see themselves in the group’s relatable tracks. This week, Fletchr Fletchr are releasing their debut EP, ‘We All Feel The Same’, which is packed with indie-rock anthems that span themes of anxiety, love, and grief – sometimes all three.
The EP opens with ‘Blink Of An Eye’, a contemplative track about a relationship that repeats the same pattern over and over. The song’s melodious and uplifting vocals juxtapose with the edginess of the electric guitar and heavy drums in the choruses. As vocalist Rohan Fletcher repeats the line “It’s only a matter of time”, the inevitability of the relationship is driven home to the listener.
‘Find Happiness’ is an uplifting anthem about how daunting it is to step out on your own and leave your past behind in order to discover yourself. The song is a rallying cry for listeners to embrace the unknown, lest they sacrifice their happiness for comfort. ‘Alive’ begins with echoing electric guitar that would sound at home played in the country’s biggest arenas. Layered vocals in the verses make the lyrics sound like they are being chanted and, as the song’s energy builds up, the explosive choruses constitute an emotional and musical release.
The band’s debut single, ‘Jet Black’, is a danceable indie-rock track with honest lyrics. Written during a time when the lead singer felt his relationship changing in a way he wasn’t prepared for, the frenzied sound and fast pace of the track mirrors the mixed-up emotions that accompany the unexpected shifting of a relationship’s dynamics when going long-distance. It’s a powerful track that showcases the band’s talents.
Starting off with a toned down intro, the latest single off the EP, titled ‘Limitations’, is haunting and raw. It’s suspenseful as the song slowly builds up to its climax, which has emo and punk undercurrents. The edgy sound of the track compliments the contents of its lyrics: the pursuit of something extraordinary in the ordinary.
‘Feel The Same’ came about when the band members realised that each of them had been bottling up their feelings. Written as a way to process their emotions, this track serves as the perfect closer to the EP. It’s an upbeat and catchy song with loud drums and pleasing harmonies. The EP’s name is borrowed from its lyrics, showing just how important the band member’s shared experiences are to Fletchr Fletchr’s identity.
