There is something fitting about Twenty One Pilots bringing their world to Victoria Park; for years, the duo have built a fanbase unlike almost any other, creating music that turns anxiety, uncertainty and frustration into something thousands of people can shout back in unison. On August 30, they’ll headline an All Points East lineup packed with artists who understand that same release, each coming from a completely different corner of alternative music.
Wunderhorse join the lineup as one of the most exciting guitar bands in the UK right now, and their music feels made for a festival stage. Their songs balance rawness with huge, soaring choruses, the kind that seem destined to echo across a field full of people singing every word back.
Gang of Youths have always understood how to make personal stories feel universal. Their music is emotional without becoming sentimental, finding hope in even the heaviest moments. They can make even the largest of crowds feel connected to the music.
Then there is Ren: musician, storyteller, and internet phenomenon. Whatever label you choose, none of them quite capture what makes him so compelling. Few artists can hold a crowd’s attention with the same ease.
PVRIS bring a darker edge to the day, blending rock, pop and electronic influences into something sleek and unmistakably theirs. Jessie Murph, meanwhile, writes with the kind of honesty that makes listeners feel as though they have stumbled into someone’s diary.
If you’re looking for raw energy, Nova Twins and Kid Kapichi have you covered. Both thrive on chaos, delivering the sort of sets that leave the crowd looking like they’ve survived something.
Elsewhere, Half•Alive, Dead Pony, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, and Reece Young are just some of the other names ensuring there’s barely a quiet moment from the first set to the last.
Some festival days are built around a headliner. This one feels built around a feeling.
