Returning to Victoria Park on 28 August, this year’s All Points East lineup somehow manages to bring together rap, indie-pop, punk and R&B without ever feeling disjointed. The festival lineup feels like a snapshot of where music is right now. If Tyler, The Creator is the centrepiece, the supporting cast is just as exciting.
Tyler is, of course, the main event. Few artists have spent the last decade reinventing themselves as successfully as Tyler has, evolving from internet provocateur into one of the most influential creative forces in modern music. Every era arrives with its own visuals, characters and aesthetics, and every live show feels like stepping directly into that world. Expect Victoria Park to become his for the evening.
Rex Orange County’s music feels almost tailor-made for the end of summer. His blend of indie-pop, jazz and confessional songwriting has a way of turning huge crowds into something that feels surprisingly intimate, creating the kind of singalongs that make festivals memorable long after they’re over.
Mariah the Scientist has a gift for turning heartbreak into something strangely addictive. Her music is vulnerable without feeling fragile, balancing sharp storytelling with melodies that stay lodged in your head for days. If you’re in the mood to feel every emotion possible before sunset, this is the set for you.
Ravyn Lenae’s music feels weightless in the best possible way, drifting between R&B and pop without ever sounding quite like anyone else.
Then there’s Yebba, who has the kind of voice that makes you stop what you are doing. Whether she is performing a stripped-back ballad or something far bigger, she brings an emotional intensity that feels impossible to fake.
Rochelle Jordan deserves far more people talking about her. Her music pulls from club culture, R&B and electronic music all at once, resulting in songs that feel nostalgic and futuristic in equal measure.
At the other end of the spectrum sits Sexyy Red, whose unapologetic energy has made her one of the most talked-about figures in rap. Her shows feel like giant parties, and that’s exactly why she’ll have one of the liveliest crowds of the day.
That is before we even get to BB Trickz, Jean Dawson, Clipse, Turnstile and the rest of the stacked lineup.
